It's mid to late July, it's about 90 degrees Farenheit in temperature with about 80% humidity outside. We've also had some monster summer storms too.Yesterday, I thought we'd have to build an ark when it rained so hard. The rain started right before I left the office for my 10 minute walk to the subway. I have never had it rain that hard on my walk to the station since I started this job. My little, collapsible umbrella barely kept me dry from about my waist up (although the outer edges of my shoulders were wet). My shoes were soaked through to my socks and my pants were a bit more than damp.
After swiping my subway card and entering the platform I took a hand towel out of my bag to dry off a bit but the humid and very warm air in the barely ventilated station just made me sweat. I felt as if I just showered but without the fresh feeling.
Luckily, the train arrived quickly and as the doors opened I felt the chilled whoosh of the air conditioned car wash over my damp and hot body. Even better, the car was half empty and I was able to get a seat!
Two stops later and I am at the PATH station for the ride home to New Jersey. I boarded another blessedly air conditioned car and settled in for the 15 minute trip.
After I exited the PATH train, I ascended to street level and saw that it was raining like God was pissing on a flat rock. Up went my umbrella and I crossed the street to my bus stop.
Life was dealing me some breaks as the bus came in less than five minutes. I boarded (along with about 10 other people) and we were off...
...To wait in brutal traffic caused by serious flooding that closed almost all the major roads. A trip on that bus normally takes 30 minutes, but on Friday, with all the detours and traffic, it took a bit more than an hour. I finally got off the bus about 10 blocks from my house where my wife met me with the car and we went out for dinner since we were in no mood to cook.
The best part was that when I got home, I had to pump more than six inches of water out of my basement.
It was a wonderful day all around.
