Maryland My Maryland

While I was stationed in Maryland, I came into my own socially and sexually. I had a large circle of friends that I hung around and partied with. We all lived in the dorms and when we were not working we were usually lounging around the common areas watching TV or movies while drinking copious amounts of beer and liquor.

There were a number of places we did go out to. We primarily went to two places, a country bar that I can't remember the name of. I learned how to two-step there. Usually a live band played. The other was closer to the base and was kind of a dive with a disco. We called it "The Deuce" since the name of the club was "Club 602". The music was not exactly our kind of thing (we were more rock and country) but the girls that hung around with us liked to go there occaisionally to dance. They sometimes had a band instead of a DJ. It also was a restaurant during the day and early evening. The best parts of the Deuce were that the girls (both locals and military) were usually better than average looking and easy. It was close to our dorm, too. I spent quite a few nights getting thrown out of there at closing time. There was a 7-11 across the county road from it that we would hit on the way home for more beer and munchies sometimes, too. I got lucky here a number of times. I even met my ex-fiance here (Bitch). I was drunk and she was drunk - go figure.

There were other places farther from the base we would go also. "Mr. Pipps" was a dance club that played rock and pop. There were nice looking girls here but not as quick to give it up. Usually a live band on the weekends and it had great atmousphere with entertaining bar tenders.

We also used to go to Annapolis Mall to hit a 2 level rock/pop disco. It had great atmousphere but it was pretty long ride from the dorms. The girls that went here were looking to pick up Naval Academy types (think of the movie "An Officer and A Gentleman") and we didn't stand a chance. I did like to take dates here since it was more upscale and I usually would not run into anyone I knew. At one time, I lived in an apartment complex that was just about half way between Annapolis and the base.

Another bar was an Irish Pizza Pub in a strip mall near an apartment complex that some friends of mine lived in. I had a memorable St. Patty's Day here once. I remember green beer, shots of Sambuca, driving my car out of the lot very late that night and then nothing. I woke up about 6AM leaning out of the car parked in some lot on base (I lived in an apartment off base at the time). It was obvious I had blown chunks on the ground (but not in the car thankfully) and I had a hangover headache that would kill a horse. It is amazing that I did not crash and kill myself or worse, someone else. In my defense, I had just split with my fiance (she dumped me) and I was in a bad way emotionally. It's not really a good defense for this but it is probably the reason I got that drunk.

Another place we hung out not too far from base was a chain type place (think Applebees or Houlihans) called Tiffany's. They had pretty good food and usually had a great DJ or live band on Friday and Saturday nights. My best friend met his second wife here (after she rejected me). I spent a couple of New Year's Eve parties here, too. We always spent time sitting at the bar playing the video trivia game that is linked nationally by satellite (I forget the name of it). Playing that thing was always a good way to pick up girls.

Just about the best place we hung out though was in Baltimore. It was called Hammerjacks and it was very famous in the area. A real rock and roll bar built in an old warehouse. They even had a great concert venue.

To be continued...
